NBISD announces Campus Teachers of the Year

2018-2019 Campus Teachers of the Year from New Braunfels ISD

The New Braunfels ISD is proud to announce this year’s Campus Teachers of the Year. All of these individuals will be honored at the March 18 board meeting and will be considered for the honor of NBISD Elementary or Secondary Teacher of the Year.

From that level, they will advance to the regional competition with hopes of ultimately being named a Texas Teacher of the Year. Photos of the Campus Teachers of the Year can be found online at http://www.nbisd.org/page/dis.toty19.



Carl Schurz Elementary – Shelby Atchley, 4th Grade Dual Language Teacher

County Line Elementary –  Meghann Bourgeois, 5th Grade Teacher

Klein Road Elementary –  Shari Ayala, Kindergarten Teacher

Lamar Elementary -  Mary Skidmore, Special Education Resource Teacher

Lone Star Early Childhood Center –  Sonya Dominguez, Pre-Kindergarten Teacher

Memorial Elementary –  Eileen Lyman, 1st Grade Teacher

Seele Elementary –  Velva Fischer, Kindergarten Teacher

Veramendi Elementary -  Brinda Soto, 1st Grade Teacher

Voss Farms Elementary -  Courtney Nauert, 3rd Grade Reading & Writing Teacher

Walnut Springs Elementary – Maribel Holtz, Music Teacher


New Braunfels Middle School –  Judith Griscom, 7th Grade Math Teacher

Oak Run Middle School –  Camilla Hubbard, 7th & 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher

Ninth Grade Center -  Trent Wenzel, World Geography Teacher

New Braunfels High School -  David Eckert, Band Director

The Teacher of the Year recognition program is intended to honor excellence in the classroom and provide a forum to showcase outstanding educators whose efforts and example have inspired their students, their colleagues and the community they serve. All recipients must:

• be experts in their field who guide students of all backgrounds and abilities to achieve excellence;

• collaborate with colleagues, students, and families to create a culture of respect and success;

• deliberately connect the classroom and key stakeholders to foster a strong community at large;

• demonstrate leadership and innovation in and outside of the classroom walls that embodies lifelong learning;

• express themselves in an engaging and articulate way.

The announcement for the District’s Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year will be made during the week of April 8. The honorees will be recognized at the April 15 Board meeting.
