NBMS robotics team wins 3rd Place at regional competition (03/27/19)

Two NBISD Robotics teams competed in the FIRST® LEGO League (FLL) Regional Championship at San Antonio's McCollum High School on March 23. NBMS blue team won 3rd place overall in the Alamo Curiosity Division.

“Both teams performed well and were excited to share their projects and information about their robots” said Matthew Sargent, parent and volunteer coach. “The teams worked hard all year long and built teamwork skills that will carry through their school and professional careers.”

NBMS Unicorn Blue Team members include: Eliana Castro, Ian Clark, Jacob Halmos, Zachary Morrison, Makenzie Osborn, Allen Reed, Nicholas Sargent and Jonathan Stowe.

NBMS Unicorn White Team members include: Dylan Furman, Lilly Gallaga, Kevin Hill, Solomon Johnson, Faith Lindblom, Alpcan Meek and Charles Sheffield.

“The FLL program teaches numerous skills related to STEM along with communication, teamwork and how to overcome adversity, since the robot programs don’t always work as the students expect,” said Sargent, who is also member of the NBISD Board of Trustees.

According to Sargent, the robotics program across the entire district is growing. Three years ago there was only one team and now there are at least five school with FLL teams. He has hopes of having a robotics club at every school.

The team is also coached by two teachers from New Braunfels Middle School - Micki Clark and Amanda Delgado.
