Several middle school students from New Braunfels ISD were recently notified that they would be recognized in this year’s Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP). Duke TIP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving academically gifted and talented students.

The following 29 students from both NBISD middle schools were recognized as participants:

Oak Run Middle School: Breece Benline, Nathalia Campos, Erin Cantu, Emily Freiha, Kaitlin Hale, Ethan Hijazi, Jadon Lindsay, Ava Schwiening, and Kate Windrow

Breece Benline, Pooja Patel, Nathalia Moreno, Ian Clark and Diego Ontiveros (not pictured) were selected as State Recognition Ceremony Honorees and are invited to attend a state-level ceremony. These five students were also honored on May 20 during the regular monthly NBISD Board meeting.

The ceremony recognizes students who score approximately at or above the national average of recent high school graduates on at least one part of the ACT or the SAT.  The ceremonies are similar to a graduation ceremony with a commencement speaker and each student being called on stage to receive a commemorative medal.

Since 1980, more than 2.9 million students have participated in Duke TIP’s talent searches. The 7th Grade Talent Search identifies seventh graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school.

According to the Duke TIP website, the talent search is the largest program of its kind. Participants in the Duke TIP 7th Grade Talent Search identify academic strengths, develop abilities and interests, and celebrate their achievements. For more information about Duke TIP, visit www.tip.duke.edu.
