Unicorn Athletics Weekly Roundup 01/18/17
Boys Basketball

Unicorn basketball is currently fifth place in district with eight games left to go. Their next game is this Friday, Jan. 20 against Smithson Valley in the NBHS competition gym.

Girls Basketball

The Lady Unicorns are currently tied with Canyon for sixth place in district. They face Smithson Valley away this Friday at 5 p.m.


Boys Soccer

Unicorn boys soccer recently finished third in the 2017 Unicorn Soccer Tournament and fourth in the NEISD Soccer Tournament.

The San Antonio Express-News have our Unicorns currently ranked in the top 10 teams in the area! They play their first district game on Jan. 24 against Judson.



Our next district swim meet will be held on Jan. 28 at the Northeast pool. We look forward to hearing about some great results, swimmers!



Last weekend, girls wrestling team competed in the Russ Pederson Invitational. The team took fourth place with only three wrestlers on the team competing.

Gaona took third after losing a close semifinal match to the eventual champion.

Vital dominated her way to the 148 lb. finals where she dropped a tough one to the defending 5A State Champion.

Hernandez won a couple of tight matches and prevailed during overtime to take the 138 lb. championship.

The boys team was invited to the THSWCA State Dual Tournament. The boys ended up with a record of 3-2 and finished as the ninth place 6A dual team in the state of Texas.

Outstanding performances were turned in by the following team members: Tyler Curry going 4-1 at 106 lbs.; Parker Rivers went 4-1 at 132 lbs.; and Anthony Parra finished 4-1 at 152 lbs. Bryce Marsh had a dominant 5-0 day at 195 and 220 lbs. even bumping up a weight class to help the team out twice. George Marsh also went 5-0 at 285 lbs.

Up next for both groups is a dual with Smithson Valley on Jan. 18 and the 32-team Hurricane Classic at Klein Collins High School in Spring.
