Elementary students in NBISD were busy this spring raising funds for the American Heart Association (AHA) through the annual Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart campaigns. In all, the students raised nearly $37,000 for the AHA among the six elementary schools that participated.

Throughout the year the different elementary campuses held their Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart campaigns while teaching students the importance of a healthy heart. The fund-raising totals for the schools were:

Walnut Springs $2,546.25

Lone Star $6,571.35

Klein Rd  $7,962.79

Seele $8,443.43

Carl Schurz $6,945.30

Memorial $4,349.00

Total $36,818.12

“With heart disease as the #1 cause of death in America, the American Heart Association works very hard to help students understand and learn the importance of protecting their hearts while they grow so they have healthier hearts as adults,” said Jennifer Hanson, AHA Youth Market Director for North San Antonio/Hill Country. "My own heart is full knowing I am able to work with my own district and community on such a special level. I am grateful beyond words!"
