Public Hearing on June 26 to discuss budget, proposed tax rate

The New Braunfels Independent School District Board of Trustees will hold a Public Hearing to discuss the 2017-2018 Budget and Proposed Tax Rate at 6:30 p.m. on June 26 in the NBISD Education Center Boardroom, located at 430 W. Mill St., New Braunfels, Texas 78130.

The purpose of this Public Hearing is to discuss the school district’s budget that will determine the tax rate to be proposed. NBISD residents are invited to participate in the discussion.

The district has posted the official notice of this public Hearing with a proposed tax rate of $1.3391 per $100 property valuation for the 2017 tax year. This includes a tax rate $1.0133 for Maintenance and Operation (M&O) and $0.3258 for Interest and Sinking (I&S).

According to NBISD Executive Director of Finance and Operations Steve Brown, NBISD taxpayers will not see a tax rate increase under this proposed rate, which will remain the same for the 11th consecutive year. Taxpayers, however, will pay an average of $185.79 more in taxes than last year, due to the increase in property values for the district.

The regular monthly board Hearing for NBISD will be held at 7 p.m., following the Public Hearing on June 26. The agenda will include action items related to the adoption of the 2017-2018 budget. The official order adopting the tax rate will be voted on during the August 21 Board meeting.
