NBHS swimming broke nine NBHS records and won seven medals after the 2017 South Zone Texas Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association (TISCA) meet on Dec. 1-2 at Palo Alto College in San Antonio! I would say our Unicorn swim team is having an outstanding year!
Unicorns finished an overall 7th out of 48 teams competing with numerous top three finishes:
Boys Relay Team (Barrera, Bruns, Malatek & Rodeffer):
200 Freestyle Relay – Silver Medal & broke the 2014 NBHS record
400 Freestyle Relay – Bronze Medal & broke the 2014 NBHS record
50 Freestyle – Silver Medal – Cole Bruns – broke NBHS record
100 Freestyle – Bronze Medal – Cole Bruns
200 Freestyle – Gold Medal – Isaac Barrera – broke NBHS record
100 Butterfly – Gold Medal – Isaac Barrera – broke NBHS record
400 IM – Gold Medal – Isaac Barrera – broke NBHS record
Isaac Barrera made the Winter Junior National cut in the 200 Freestyle and the 100 Butterfly. This qualified him to compete in the 2017 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships at the University of Iowa on December 6-9!
We want to wish him the best as he sets out to show everyone that Unicorns can swim too!
Unicorn pride is justified!

Boys Basketball

Not only have our Unicorns helped Coach Brawner win his 200th game as a coach but Unicorn basketball is sitting with a current record of 10-2! On Nov. 30th they competed in and won the 46th Annual Best of the Bay. They will be hosting the River City Varsity Tournament starting on Dec. 8. They are set to face the Alamo Heights Mules in first round play at NBHS gym at 4 p.m.
We look forward to watching some great games and reporting more W’s!
First game of district is on Dec. 19 as they face Judson in an away game.

Girls Basketball

Unicorn ladies basketball is on a roll too. They are currently sitting 10-3! They just helped host the NB/Canyon Classic and came away with wins over SA Brackenridge, Round Rock Stony Point and Smithson Valley to finish overall 5th in the tournament. Nicole Mangold was named all-tournament!
They play SA Lee on Dec. 12 in the NBHS gym at 7:30 p.m. before district starts on Dec.r 15 where they fill face Clemens at 7:30 p.m. in the NBHS gym.

Unicorn soccer teams are set and in the first week of practice! They look to start scrimmages the week between Christmas and New Years. Stay warm, Unicorns! We will be cheering for you!
