Robotics teams compete at Regionals

NBMS Unicorn Blue & WSE robotics teams

Robotics teams from New Braunfels Middle School (NBMS) and Walnut Springs Elementary (WSE) competed with more than 60 teams around the San Antonio area in the Alamo East Division FIRST LEGO League Regional Championship on March 4 at McCollum High School.

The teams, NBMS Unicorn Robotics Blue and WSE Unicorn Robotics, were nominated for awards in the Robot Design, Core Values and Project categories.

Both teams qualified for the competition after winning awards at the FIRST LEGO League’s Regional Qualifier on Feb. 17 at Brentwood Middle School. The teams secured their advancement to last weekend’s Regional with awards in Design: Strategy and Innovation and Project: Research.

Country Line’s robotics team, The County Line Code Breakers, also competed in the robotics portion at the Feb. 17 qualifier, but did not receive a score high enough to qualify for the regional level.

“Each team had fun and were excited about competing with the other teams from the Alamo region,” said Matthew Sargent, a volunteer robotics team coach and NBISD School Board Member. “They learned a lot of valuable information for next year.”
