Sherry Harrison re-elected to 4th term on School Board

Sherry Harrison was re-elected on May 5 to serve her fourth term on the NBISD Board of Trustees for Single-Member District 5.

The residents of New Braunfels ISD re-elected Sherry Harrison as Trustee for Single-Member District 5 during the election held on May 5. The race included two candidates – Sherry Harrison and Kyle Campbell – vying for the position on the NBISD Board of Trustees. Harrison received 272 votes (63.55 percent) and Campbell received 156 votes (36.45 percent). A total of 429 votes were cast in the election or 4.68 percent of the 9,173 registered voters in District 5.

Trustee, Single Member District No. 5

 

Sherry Harrison, first elected to the Board of Trustees in May 2009, currently serves as the Board Vice President. She previously served as Board Secretary for one year and Vice President for several years.  She has been elected to her fourth term following today’s election. 

 

A 17-year resident of NBISD, Harrison volunteers at the NBISD elementary school libraries, delivers Meals on Wheels, serves as officer/chairperson for the Mid-Texas Symphony and is a member of the City of NB Arts and Culture Task Force. She and husband, Matthew, have two daughters, both of who were distinguished graduates of NBHS.

 

Trustee, Single Member District 2

 

Eric Bergquist ran unopposed for the NBISD Board of Trustees position in Single-Member District 3, and will begin his first term on the Board after he is sworn in on May 21. His name did not appear on a ballot and he was declared elected on April 16, 2018. 

 

Eric Bergquist, a 1987 graduate of New Braunfels High School, will begin his first term on the NBISD Board of Trustees on May 21 following the official swearing in ceremony. He is employed by GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals as a Territory Account Manager. He is very active in the community and currently serves on the NBISD Education Foundation Board of Directors. He and his wife, Dawn, have two children who recently graduated from NBHS.

 

The Board will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. on May 16 in the NBISD Boardroom to canvass the votes from the May 5, 2018 election. The newly elected board members will be sworn on May 21, during the regular monthly Board meeting. Both District 3 and District 5 are full, three-year terms that will expire in 2021.

 

The NBISD Board of Trustees is comprised of seven members that include five single-member districts and two at-large positions. According to Board Policy BBA (LEGAL), the trustees, as a body corporate, have the exclusive power and duty to govern and oversee the management of the public schools of a district.
