NBISD students win state recognition in PTA Reflections program

The NBISD Council of PTAs recognized the 2018 PTA Reflections Overall District Winners on May 10.

New Braunfels ISD is proud to announce that six NBISD students have had their PTA Reflection entries selected for a state-level honor including one entry that will advance to nationals.

The Texas PTA received 979 entries for state-level judging and awarded 500 students. A total of 14 entries from NBISD students were submitted to the state level earlier this semester. Of those students, the following six students were selected as Texas PTAs Reflection Award Winners:

Perri Call, National Qualifier and Overall Award of Excellence in Primary Photography, “Within Reach of Life,” Voss Farms Elementary

Tate Korpi, Award of Excellence in High School Photography, “Free,” New Braunfels High School

Clark Haygood, Honorable Mention in Primary Music, “Concerto #1 in A Major (Bb Clairnet Concerto, Theme song),” Voss Farms Elementary

The Texas PTA will present these state winners with an award at a ceremony this summer. The students were also honored by the NBISD PTA Council on May 10 and the NBISD Board on May 21.

The other state qualifiers that won an Overall Award of Excellence from the NBISD Council of PTAs at the district level include:

Emma Parrish, Middle School Dance, “Hope,” Oak Run Middle School

Rigdon Powell, Primary Literature, “The Phoenix,” Walnut Springs Elementary

Abigail Henkes, Intermediate Literature, “Close to the Heavens,” Seele Elementary

This year the theme was “Within Reach” and the categories included dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts. All of the entries were judged on interpretation of the theme, creativity and artistic merit, and mastery of medium. Each entry must be the original work of one student and created specifically for the Reflections program based on the national theme.
