NBISD announces new administrators

NBISD Superintendent Randy Moczygemba has announced the hiring of four administrators for the 2018-2019 school year as well as the reassignment of two assistant principals.  

 

Campus Administration

Jeff Vaughn, new assistant principal at Lamar Elementary (SY 18-19)

Jeffrey Vaughn has been named the new assistant principal for Lamar Elementary. Vaughn will be transitioning into the assistant principal role this summer after serving the past four years as NBISD’s secondary mathematics curriculum specialist. Prior to working for NBISD, he worked for Comal ISD as an instructional coach, teacher and head soccer coach. He has a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Lamar University and a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Texas State University. He and his wife, Sarah, have two school-age children that attend NBISD.

 

Kellye Shipman, new assistant principal at New Braunfels MS (SY 18-19)

Kellye Shipman has been named as the new assistant principal at New Braunfels Middle School. She will be transitioning into this newly created position after serving as a school counselor the past three years at NBMS. Last school year she also served as an intern with NBMS Principal Greg Hughes. Before coming to NBISD, she was a school counselor, elementary math teacher and elementary science teacher in Seguin ISD. She also taught at the elementary level in Gonzales ISD.  She holds a Masters of Arts in Counseling & Guidance from Texas A&M University San Antonio, a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Texas Tech University and received her principal’s certificate from Lamar University.

Tera Thompson, new Assistant Principal at Veramendi Elementary (SY 2018-19)

Tera Thompson has been named as the new assistant principal at Veramendi Elementary. This newly created position was added due to the growing student population at the school. Thompson will be joining NBISD from Nixon-Smiley CISD where she served as Director of Federal Programs for the past eight years. Since 2005, she has worked independently as a consultant for grants and professional development services. She worked for NBISD from 1998-2008 in several positions at both the campus and district level. She has also worked as a teacher in Comal ISD, Bryan ISD and Coolidge ISD. Thompson has a master’s degree in Education Administration from Texas State University and a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M University. She and her husband, Drake, reside in New Braunfels and have three children.

 

Ida Smylie, an assistant principal at Klein Road Elementary, will be moving to Carl Schurz Elementary to be the assistant principal.

 

Val Trevino, an assistant principal at Carl Schurz Elementary, will be moving to Klein Road Elementary to be the assistant principal.

 

District Administration

 

Robert Stevens, new assistant director for Special Education (SY 18-19)

Robert Stevens was recently hired as the Assistant Director in the Special Education Department. He has worked as a Special Education Administrator in the San Antonio Area since 2002 and held positions at Northside ISD, Cuero ISD and San Antonio ISD. In his career, he has also been an assistant principal for five years and worked as a Special Education teacher and coach in the Corpus Christi area. He has a Master of Science in Education Administration and a bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
