NBHS students selected for All-State Choir
01/24/2019

New Braunfels High School Choir members Savanna Pack and Navi Walker were selected for the 2019 Texas All-State Treble Choir

Two Unicorn Choir members, Savanna Pack and Navi Walker, were selected for membership to the Texas All-State Choir. On Jan. 12, these singers competed in two rounds of auditions against the top vocalists from Central Texas after successfully advancing through three previous auditions this fall.

Their achievement places them in the top 2 percent of students who began the audition process last fall. Pack, a senior at NBHS, was selected as a Soprano 2. Walker is a junior at NBHS and was chosen as an Alto 1.

“These two young woman have poured countless hours and intense focus into some very advanced music,” said Caitlyn Gallegos, NBHS choir director. “I am extremely proud of their dedication and hard work. It is such a joy to work with them and to see their commitment to excellence be rewarded with membership in the TMEA All-State Treble Choir."

According to Gallegos, there are now 21 All-State Choir members from NBHS with the first selected in 1967. The last time NBHS had two All-State Choir members in one year was in 1988.

Both Pack and Walker will convene with the other Texas All-State Choir members during the Texas Music Educator Association’s (TMEA) annual convention from Feb. 13-16 in San Antonio. They will spend three days in rigorous rehearsals to prepare the ensemble for their concert scheduled for 4 p.m. on Feb. 16 in the San Antonio Convention Center’s Stars at Night Ballroom. The concert is free and open to the public.
