About NBISD's Pre-Kindergarten Program

Lone Star Early Childhood Center (Lone Star) is home to the district's pre-kindergarten students. Please complete the steps outlined below before visiting the campus to deliver the required registration documents. Registration documents will be accepted during normal office hours beginning August 6.

 

Students will still need to meet eligibility requirements before they can be fully enrolled. NBISD’s Pre-K is a full-day program and is also open to students that wish to pay tuition. Tuition students will need to pay a $150 deposit to be enrolled for the 2018-2019 school year. Tuition will be $450 per month.

  • Any 3-year-old (as of Sept. 1, 2018) who qualifies for Pre-K through BCFS/HeadStart and any student that turns 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2018. Tuition spots are also available for the 4-year-old classes. All students that would like to attend Lone Star must reside in New Braunfels ISD.

  • NBISD partners with BCFS Education Services Head Start. All 3 year old students must qualify through Head Start before registering online with NBISD.  Students must be 3 by September 1, 2018 to qualify.

    Qualifications:

    • Income is below the Federal Poverty Guidelines
    • Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or TANF Benefits Recipient
    • Homeless (as defined by the McKinney Vento Act)
    • Foster Care Placement

    Required Documents:

    • Birth Certificate
    • Social Security Card
    • Immunization Record
    • Insurance Card
    • Driver’s License (with your current address)
    • Proof of Residency
      • NBU, CenterPoint Energy, GVEC or CPS bill
      • Lease Agreement (with all occupants listed)
      • Mortgage Statement
      • Notarized letter from your landlord (listing all occupants)
      • If your family is residing with another New Braunfels ISD resident, a Residency Form must be completed. Both the parent/guardian and the NBISD resident need to be present. The NBISD resident will need to provide proof of residency and driver’s license
    • Proof of Income for both parents/guardians (if applicable)
    • All W-2’s for 2017
    • 2017 Tax Return
    • All pay stubs from the previous month
    • Letter from employer
    • TANF award letter
    • Supplemental Security Income (SSI) award letter
    • Child Support Statement showing the last 12 months of payments
    • Unemployment benefits letter

    • Foster Care Placement Documentation (if applicable)

    Step 1: Register online through txConnect
    Complete the online registration before you come to campus. Download step-by-step instructions here.

    Manage your student’s records with your newly issued portal ID.

New Braunfels ISD children who will be the required age on or before September 1, 2018, AND meet state and federal Pre-kindergarten and/or BCFS/HeadStart eligibility requirements may register. NBISD also has tuition spots available in the 4-year-old program. Once a student is enrolled in full-day Pre-K, school attendance is mandatory. This is not a drop-in or day care program.


In order to comply with state and local mandates, as well as local school board policy, parents or guardians must produce the following documents:


All Pre-K applicants will be applying for both NBISD Pre-K and BCFS/HeadStart eligibility. If a student meets eligibility requirements this spring they will remain eligible for the 2018-2019 school year.


To meet eligibility for Pre-Kindergarten and/or BCFS/HeadStart, a student must qualify for at least ONE (1) of the following criteria:

  1. is unable to speak and comprehend the English language; or
  2. is educationally disadvantaged, which means a student eligible to participate in the national free or reduced-price lunch program; or
  3. is homeless, as defined by 42 United States Code (U.S.C.) Section 1143a, regardless of the residence of the child, of either parent of the child, or of the child's guardian or other person having lawful control of the child; or
  4. is the child of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority; or
  5. is the child of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, who was injured or killed while serving on active duty; or
  6. is in, or have been in, the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) following an adversary hearing held as provided by Section 262.201, Family Code; or
  7. is the child of a person eligible for the Star of Texas Award as a peace officer (3106.002), firefighter (3106.003), or emergency medical first responder (3106.004).

You must bring the following to registration:


Birth Certificate –All students must be the required age as of September 1, 2018.

Must be state-issued certified copy. Hospital birth certificates are not considered legal state certified birth certificates.

  • If your child was born in Texas, you can obtain a certified copy of your child’s birth certificate from the Comal County Clerk’s Office in the County Courthouse Annex Bldg., located at 150 N. Seguin, Ste. 101, in Downtown New Braunfels. Parents can also request a copy online at www.texas.gov under the Vital Records link.
  • For information on how to obtain an out-of-state certified copy of your child’s birth certificate, call the Clerk’s Office at 830-221-1230, press Option 5.
  • If a birth certificate is not available, the school may also accept a student passport, military ID, adoption records, or legal documentation that establishes a student’s identity.


Social Security Card – Must be the child’s card.


Immunization Record – Record of all immunizations and/or boosters. Documentation must have the physician’s signature or clinic stamp. Month, day and year must be recorded for each shot.


Residency Verification – When you enroll your child, you must provide your Texas Driver’s License or Texas ID that must list your current address and at least one of the following documents to prove you live within the New Braunfels ISD (address on ID and document must match):

  • NBU bill
  • CenterPoint Energy bill
  • GVEC or CPS bill
  • Complete Lease Agreement (listing all occupants) with signatures of landlords and leasees
  • Mortgage Agreement
  • Notarized letter from your landlord (listing all occupants)

Additional Documents needed to register for HeadStart include:
  1. Verification of Medical Insurance
  2. Proof of Income - Current Pay Stub, Tax Return and Employer Letter

If your family is residing with another NBISD resident, a Residency Form will need to be completed at the campus. Both the parent/guardian, and the NBISD resident will need to call the front office and schedule an appointment for completion.  The NBISD resident will need to provide proof of residency and the campus principal must approve all forms.

¡Hola Pequeños Unicornios, es Tiempo de Inscripciones!

El Distrito Escolar Independiente de New Braunfels estará aceptando inscripciones de Pre-Kindergarten para aquellos alumnos que tengan 4 años cumplidos el 1 de Septiembre del 2018, Y cumplan con los requisitos federales, estatales y/o de BCFS/HeadStart para cursar Pre-K.  NBISD tendrá espacios limitados para estudiantes de Pre-K que paguen colegiatura.  Una vez que el/la estudiante es inscrito(a) en Pre-K, la asistencia es obligatoria ya que este no es un programa de guardería u opcional.

Este evento de pre-inscripción permitirá a los padres llenar/entregar documentos de elegibilidad para Pre-K, revisar los documentos, hacer preguntas referentes a la inscripción de su hijo(a), e inscribir a su hijo(a) si cuenta con todos los documentos requeridos.

Con el fin de cumplir con requerimientos locales, estatales, y de la mesa directiva, los padres o guardianes deberán de traer los siguientes documentos:

Todos los aplicantes a Pre-K deberán también aplicar ambos: el Pre-K de NBISD, y BCFS/HeadStart.  Si un estudiante cumple con los requerimientos de elegibilidad para esta primavera, continuarán siendo elegibles para el año escolar 2018-2019.

Para ser elegible para el programa Pre-K y/o BCFS/HeadStart, el/la estudiante deberá cumplir con por lo menos UNA (1) de las siguientes condiciones:

  1. no puede hablar y comprender el idioma Inglés; o

  2. está en desventaja educacional (Alimentos Gratuitos/Reducidos -  HAGA CLIC AQUÍ para imprimir la aplicación); o

  3. no tiene hogar, como lo define 42 U.S.C. Sección 1143a, sin importar la residencia del estudiante, de los padres del estudiante, o los guardianes o tutores legales del estudiante; o

  4. el/la estudiante es hijo(a) de un miembro activo de la fuerzas armadas de los Estados Unidos, incluyendo las fuerzas militares estatales o reservas de las fuerzas armadas que han sido enviados a participar en las fuerzas armadas por la autoridad correspondiente; ó

  5. es hijo(a) de un miembro activo de la fuerzas armadas de los Estados Unidos, incluyendo las fuerzas militares estatales o reservas de las fuerzas armadas que han sido lesionados o han fallecido mientras servían en las fuerzas armadas; ó

  6. está o ha estado bajo el cuidado del Departamento de Familias o Servicios Protectivos luego de la decisión de una audiencia de acuerdo al Código Familiar Sección 262.201.

Documentos que Necesitará

Con el fin de cumplir con reglas locales y estatales, así como con las políticas del consejo escolar, padres y guardianes deberán contar con los siguientes documentos:

Acta de Nacimiento – Deberá ser generada y certificada por el estado.  Certificados del hospital no se consideran actas de nacimiento certificadas por el estado.

  • Si su hijo(a) nació en Texas, usted podrá obtener un acta de nacimiento certificada en la Oficina del Condado ubicada en la Corte del Centro de New Braunfels en 150 N. Seguin, Ste. 101.  Los padres también pueden requerir una copia en www.texas.gov bajo la liga “Vital Records.

  • Para mayor información de cómo obtener un acta de nacimiento de otro estado, llame a la Oficina del Condado 830-221-1230 (Option 5).

  • Si no cuenta con un acta de nacimiento, la escuela también aceptará un pasaporte del estudiante, identificación militar, registros de adopción o documentación legal que determine la identidad del estudiante.

Tarjeta de Seguro Social – Deberá ser la tarjeta del niño(a).


Tarjeta de Vacunación – Registro de todas las vacunas.  El documento deberá tener la firma o estampa de la clínica o doctor.  Cada vacuna deberá tener día, mes y año en que fue aplicada.


Verificación de Residencia – Cuando inscriba a su hijo(a), deberá proporcionar su Credencial de Identificación del Estado de Texas o su Licencia de Conducir expedida por el Estado de Texas.  Dichas credenciales incluyen su dirección actual y a su vez también deberá presentar al menos uno de los siguientes documentos que compruebe que usted vive dentro de los límites geográficos de NBISD (la dirección debe ser igual que la dirección en la prueba de residencia):

  • Recibo de NBU

  • Recibo de CenterPoint Energy

  • Recibo de GVEC

  • Contrato de Arrendamiento (que incluya los nombres de todos los inquilinos)

  • Contrato de Hipoteca

  • Carta notariada del dueño de la casa donde viven (que incluya los nombres de todos los inquilinos)

Si su familia vive con otro residente de NBISD, una Forma de Residencia se deberá llenar en el plantel. Ambos padres/guardianes y el residente de la residencia ubicada dentro de NBISD deberán hacer una cita con la secretaria de la escuela.  El residente de NBISD necesitará proporcionar prueba de residencia y el/la directora(a) de la escuela deberá aprobar todas las formas.
