2016 Graduation Ceremony Information
Ceremony Viewing

A video of the 2016 New Braunfels High School graduation ceremony will be available to view on June 6, 2016, at www.nbisd.org and the New Braunfels ISD YouTube channel. Additionally, it will be broadcast Sundays at 6 p.m. on Time Warner Cable Channel 98. The video is also available for purchase on DVD by calling (830) 643-5780 or by emailing info@nbisd.org.

Event Guidelines


Graduates are being asked to arrive and report to the auxiliary gym at Strahan no later than 6:15 p.m. Parking for the event is in the large lot next to Strahan Coliseum.Bullhorns, whistles, beach balls, etc. will not be permitted in the venue. Handicap seating is available on the ground floor, but is limited.


Ceremony Program

Nearly 600 high school graduates will walk the stage on May 26 during the New Braunfels High School Commencement Ceremony scheduled for 7 p.m. at Texas State University’s Strahan Coliseum.


The Master of Ceremonies for the graduation ceremony will be Colton West, the student body president. The ceremony will feature the Top 11 graduates from the class in several speaking roles including the opening sentiments, graduation address, and closing sentiments.

Vanessa Turner
Co-Valedictorian
Vanessa Turner is the co-valedictorian for the New Braunfels High School Class of 2016. While in high school, she was a member of the National Honor Society, the Varsity Swim Team and the Awana Club. Her honors and awards include being named an AP Scholar with Distinction, TMEA All-State String Orchestra for violin in 2014, Region 18 High School Symphony Orchestra from 2012-2015 and All-American Academic from the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association. She has also spent time as a volunteer at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital and T Bar M Sports Camps and is a 2014 graduate of the Chamber of Commerce’s Youth Leadership New Braunfels. After high school, she plans to attend Baylor University and major in Business. She also plans to play the violin in Baylor’s orchestra. She is the daughter of Jeff and Maria Turner.

Jaxon Blair
Co-Valedictorian
Jaxon Blair is the co-valedictorian for the New Braunels High School Class of 2016. While attending NBHS, he was a member of the National Honor Society, the Technology Students Association (TSA) for one year and Feed the Children his freshman year. His awards and honors include being named National Merit Scholarship Finalist, AP Scholar with Distinction, TSA State Finalist and a PTA Reflections Contest Winner. After high school, he plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin and major in Computer Science and minor in Creative Writing. Using his education, he plans to pursue a career in software development and to write fictional books/novels. He is the son of Dr. Kevin and Kim Blair.

Garrett Malatek
Salutatorian
Garrett Malatek is the salutatorian for the New Braunfels High School Class of 2016. He is a four-year member of the UIL Socials Studies Team serving as captain for two years. He is a four-year member of the UIL Speech and Debate Team and the UIL Current Events and Issues Team where he served two years as captain and was a state qualifier both years. He was part of the First Tech Challenge Robotics Team and the NBHS Golf Team for two years. He is a graduate of Youth Leadership New Braunfels and is interning at Micro Power Global. Malatek is a Boy Scout of America Eagle Scout and received the Roger Dolle Award from the City of New Braunfels for Excellence in an Eagle Scout Project. He plans to attend Texas A&M University and major in Mechanical Engineering. One day he hopes to start and run his own engineering firm. He is the son of Greg and Shelly Malatek.
