2018-2019 NBHS Students of the Month

Outstanding students from New Braunfels High School are honored as the Students of the Month and recognized at the monthly board meeting.

    NBHS Student of the Month for April 2019 Angie Salgado honored at the April 15, 2019, regular Board meeting

    Angie Salgado has attended NBHS all four years of her high school career. She is a two-year member of the NBHS Jr. Varsity Girls Soccer team and a two-year member of NBHS HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America). She competed in the HOSA Dental Science competition and received a first place in district and went on to compete in the state competition.  She plans to attend the University of Texas at San Antonio and apply to the Dental Early Acceptance Program. In joining this program, she will be given the opportunity for early acceptance to the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where she plans to become a dentist.. She is the daughter of Jorge and Claudia Salgado. 

     

     

     


    NBHS Student of the Month for April 2019 Skylar Vestal honored at the April 15, 2019, regular Board meetingSkylar Vestal has attended NBHS for all four years of his high school career. He is a three-year member and founder of the Creative Coding Club that teaches students how to program using Art and a three-year member of the NBHS Uil Academics team placing first in chemistry state wide in 2 virtual tests. He is a three-year member of the NBHS Science Olympiad and current President and a three-year member and club leader and future mentor of the CyberPatriot Club where he participated in the highest tier of competition. He has spent one year self studying pre-calculus, multi-variable calculus and he is currently studying differential equations. Vestal has spent four years on the STEM YouTube Channel “dinoswerleafs” with 55,000 subscribers and spent one year programming free SAT testing engine for open source access. He is enrolled at The University of Texas at Austin for computer science while waiting on the waitlist admissions from Rice University and Cornell University. He hopes to eventually become a professor of computer science in artificial intelligence while incorporating other disciplines of chemistry, physics and math for future research. He is the son of Charles Vestal.  

  • Savanna Pack has attended NBHS all four years of her high school career. She is a four-year member of the NBHS Varsity Women’s and Mixed Choir serving for two years as an NBHS Choir Officer. She is a four-year member of the NBHS Drama Club earning All-Star Cast and Honorable Mention for UIL One Act Play, and played the lead role of Maria in “The Sound of Music” and currently in the cast of the UIL One Act Play.  She is a seven-year member of the New Braunfels Performing Arts having performed many roles such as Cinderella in “Into the Woods” and Grizapula in “Cats.” Pack has also served as a camp counselor for Theater Camps and volunteered in the Box Office and backstage.  She plans to attend Texas State University and study Vocal Performance and Opera. She is the daughter of LaDonna and Garland Pack. 

    Evan Bowen has attended NBHS for all four years of his high school career. He is a two-year member of the NBHS National Honor Society and a 2017 graduate of the New Braunfels Youth Leadership Program. He has served as the NBHS Class of 2019 Vice President for two years and is a four-year member and current President of NBHS German Club. He is also a four-year member of NBHS UIL Academic Team, three-year member of the Science Olympiad and a two-year member of NBHS JV Tennis team. During his senior year, he was a member of the NBHS Blue Crew and the NBHS Rachel’s Challenge Cains of Kindness Committee.  He is a four-year member of the Boy Scouts earning the rank of Eagle Scout in October of 2018 and is an active member of Church of Christ Scientist. He plans to pursue a career in Geoscience. He has not decided which school he will attend at the present. He is the son of Ken and Melanie Bowen.

    Larissa Maurer has attended NBHS all four years of her high school career. She is a two-year member of the NBHS National Honor Society.  She has spent all four years of high school as a member of NBHS Marine Corps JROTC and served one year as the NBHS JROTC Battalion Executive Officer. She is a three-year member of NBHS Skills USA where she earned 1st place in Crime Scene at competition. She is also a two-year member of NBHS Leo’s Club and one-year member of Police Explorers. She is enlisted in the United States Navy as a Gunners Mate. She is the daughter of Robert and Savannah Maurer.

    Isaac Barrera has attended NBHS for all four years of his high school career. He is a two-year member of the NBHS National Honor Society and a 2017 graduate of the New Braunfels Youth Leadership Program. He is a four-year member of the NBHS Swim Team, was named NISCA All-American his junior year, a three-time 6A State Finalist, was named Academic All-State three times and is the Senior Team Captain. Barrera has volunteered at the SOS Food bank for the past four years as a First Protestant Church Volunteer and is a five-year member of Club Swim Team with the Alamo Area Aquatics Association. He signed a National Letter of Intent to swim for the University of Minnesota where he plans to obtain a business degree at the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management. He is the son of Darragh and Ralph Barrera.

  • Allison Fuquay has attended NBHS all four years of her high school career. She is a member of the NBHS National Honor Society and NBHS Student Council. She is a 2016 FCCLA gold medal finalist and attended the 2016 FCCLA National Leadership Training.  She has spent all four years of high school as a member of the NBHS Dance Teams and served in the following roles: Co-Captain of the NBHS Sapphire Dance team, freshman year; Monocera Dance Team Social Officer, sophomore year; Monocera Dance Team Major,  junior year; and Monocera Dance Team Colonel, senior year.  She is a Mid-Texas Symphony Debutante, member of the Youth Leadership New Braunfels Class of 2017 and an Oakwood Baptist Church Youth Volunteer. She plans to attend University of Mississippi and major in business. She is the daughter of John and Kaye Fuquay.

    Sebastian James has attended NBHS for all four years of his high school career. He is a four-year member of the NBHS Student Council and the current Student Council President. He is a four-year member of the NBHS MCJROTC and served two years as Captain.  For one year he was a  member of the NBHS track team participating in the shot put. Additionally, he is a Boys State Graduate and has earned more than 550 volunteer hours earned since his freshman year. He is currently enlisted in the United State Marine Corps as an E2 Private First Class. He is also exploring options with Texas A&M and Blinn College. He is the son of Kathy James and Lincoln Holmes.

  • Cacee Strean has attended NBHS all four years of her high school career. She is a two-year member of the NBHS National Honor Society, a four-year member of the NBHS Varsity Swim Team serving as Team Captain her senior year, receiving All-District honors all four years, named All-State and All-American Academic her junior year and a two-year member of the NBHS Varsity Track and Field Team competing in shot put and discus.  She is a four-year member of NBHS Band making District in Region Band Competition her junior and senior years, a three-year member of NBHS Honor Band and a one-year member of NBHS Wind Ensemble her senior year. An eight-year member of the Leos Club, holding the positions of Vice President her junior year and President in her senior year, she has logged over 300 volunteer hours and has helped collect new and used glasses for those in need. Strean is a member of Holy Family Catholic church and has served as a Lector and has helped with the Religious Education Center for six years. As a member of the NB Trail Team 6 Jeep Club, she has participated in helping the community with volunteer opportunities such as Adopt a Highway clean up, Senior Serv-A-Thon, Haven for Hope, the Women’s and Children’s Shelter, Teen Connection and the NB Food Bank. She raised $300 for the American Cancer Society during Relay for Life 2018, donated to Locks of Love and participated in blood drives at NBHS where she only needs one more to receive her red cord. She plans to attend Texas State University for her Masters in Aquatic Science and Environmental Science. After completion she then plans to attend Texas A&M Galveston for her PHD in Marine Biology as she plans to become a marine biologist to help protect the environment and its aquatic life. She is the daughter of Rebecca Strean and Jason Price.

    Collin Presley has attended NBHS for all four years of his high school career. He is a two-year member of the NBHS National Honor Society, a four-year member of the NBHS Boys Basketball team playing on Varisity for two years, a one-year member of the NBHS Blue Crew, and a one-year member of NBHS Business Professional Association.  Outside of school, he is a member of the youth group at Gruene United Methodist Church and has attended mission trips to Tennessee and Virginia. He is also a member of Boy Scout Troop 133 where he received  the ranking of Eagle Scout.  He plans to attend Texas A&M and receive a degree in engineering. He is the son of Scott and Erica Presley.

  • Robert, Sarah and Cheli Wuest at the Nov. 12, 2018, regular monthly meeting of the NBISD Board of Trustees.

    Sarah Wuest has attended NBHS all four years of her high school career. She is a four-year member of the NBHS Varsity Cross Country and Varsity Track and Field Teams and a NBHS National Honor Society member. She was a State Qualifier in Track and Cross Country Meets her sophomore and junior year. She has also successfully completed 99 hours of community service with Oakwood Baptist Church. She plans to further her running career and has signed a letter of intent with the University of Texas. She will be studying Business/Advertising and eventually starting her own company. She is the daughter of Robert and Cheli Wuest.

    NBHS Student of the Month for November 2018 Luke Bird with his parents at the Nov. 12, 2018 regular monthly meeting of the NBISD Board of Trustees.Luke Bird has attended NBHS for all four years of his high school career. He is a two-year member of the NBHS National Honor Society where he currently serves as the Vice President and   a two-year member of the NHBS Student Council where he is currently serving as the Senior Class President. Bird is a four-year member of the Marine Corp JROTC serving two years as an officer and the current Battalion Commander, and a four year member of the NBHS wrestling team serving two years as the co-captain of the team. He has completed more than 200 hours of community service and serves as an usher at Cross Lutheran Church. Bird will attend the United States Naval Academy and earn his Bachelors of Science in Chemistry. After earning his degree, he will become a commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corp. He is the son of Audra Courter and Chad Bird.

  • Anna Rossbach NBHS Student of the Month for October 2018Anna Rossbach has attended NBHS all four years of her high school career. She is a four-year member of the NBHS Marching Band where she has served two-years as the NBHS Band Section Leader for the flute section and a four-year member of Future Texas Music Educators where she is currently serving as the Secretary.  She was a member of the 2017 Region Band and a two-year member of the National Honor Society and a one-year member of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). She plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin and study speech-language pathology. She is the daughter of Dr. Mario Rossbach and Alicia Rossbach.

    Ethan Venegoni (2nd from right) was honored as the NBHS Student of the Month for October 2018 during the board meeting on October 15, 2018.

    Ethan Venegoni has attended NBHS for all four years of his high school career. He has been a member of the NBHS Varsity Tennis Team for three years and is the current Captain of the team.  He is also a two-year member of the National Honor Society serving at this years Secretary. Ethan is a four-year member of the Springs Community Church Youth Group and he has volunteered  at both the Comal County Senior Citizens Group and the Westside Community Center for the past three years. He is still undecided on where he will continue his education but he plans on pursuing a degree in engineering. He is the son of Dannett Venegoni & Jeff Venegoni.

  • Rylie Lillibridge (2nd from right) was honored as the NBHS Student of the Month for September 2018 during the board meeting on September 17, 2018Rylie Lillibridge has attended NBHS all four years of her high school career. She is a two-year member of the National Honor Society, a two-year member of the Science Olympiad and  was the President of the Night Grade Center Chapter of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA). She was on the Sapphires Freshman Dance Team, Lieutenant of the Mystics JV Dance Team and a two-year member of the Monoceras Varsity Dance Team. Outside of school she has spent 5 years as a student with Dance by Design Studios and 4 years with Adventures in Music Guitar Studio. She is a graduate of Youth Leadership New Braunfels. She plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin in the Plan Two Honors Program as a double major in neuroscience and liberal arts. She also plans to pursue a course in Pre-Med or obtain her PhD. She is the daughter of Natalie and Brian Lillibridge.

    Christopher Greenwell NBHS Student of the Month for September 2018

    Christopher Greenwell has attended NBHS for all four years of his high school career. He is the National Honor Society President, served three terms as Class President and Student Council Officer, is a two-term Student Representative sitting in on the NBISD School Board, and a one-year member of the NBHS band. He was also a Texas Boys State Senator, a graduate of the 2017 Class of Youth Leadership New Braunfels, a Life Teen at Sts. Peter and Paul, on the Team Acts Retreat Team and a Republican Party volunteer. He plans on attending Texas A&M University to study business or public administration. He aspires to one day be in politics and run for public office. He is the son of Tracy and Brian Greenwell.
