Rebecca M. Villarreal, APR, became the NBISD Director of Communications in July 2013. In this role, she serves as the District spokesperson, coordinates media coverage and serves as the information liaison between the school system and the community She also oversees the marketing and branding of the District one-of-a-kind mascot - the Unicorn.
Villarreal has been a public relations professional since 2000 with a majority of those years in education. She has been a PR professional for organizations such as Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD, Time Warner Cable, North East ISD, St. Philip’s College, and the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW).
She is an active member of the Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) since 2001 and served on numerous committees. She held the position of Central Texas Zone Coordinator for three years and is the current Central Area Vice President for TSPRA.
She has also been an active member of the San Antonio Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and was the chapter president in 2011.
Villarreal is a graduate of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in Odessa where she received a Bachelor or Arts degree in Mass and Speech Communication. She earned her master’s degree in Communication Arts from the University of the Incarnate Word. She and her husband, Dr. Albert Villarreal (NBHS ’93), reside in New Braunfels and have three young children.
Chris Salazar joined our team in August 2015.
As Multimedia Specialist, Salazar oversees video production, graphic design and sports information. He also assists with photography, website management and public relations efforts. He is also responsible for the operation of the video board at Unicorn Stadium, along with the Video Crew comprised of NBHS students and staff members.
For more than 10 years, Salazar has refined his video and photo expertise in a wide variety of production environments from documentary, short film, live music, professional sports, advertising, campaigns and a multitude of other creative endeavors. He’s also a registered UAV pilot, allowing him to capture his perspective from above.
Salazar holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Media and Mass Communication from Texas State University and is a former staff member of Texas State’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Gaye Lynn McCoy joined the Communications Department in August 2014 as the Administrative Assistant for the Communications Department.
In this role, she assists the Director of Communications in day-to-day administrative duties including marketing and sales of ads for the newly launched e-Blast program to parents and employees.McCoy joined NBISD after leaving DPS as a Customer Service Representative II in the Driver’s License Division.
She is an avid outdoorsman, lifelong New Braunfels resident and graduate of New Braunfels High School. She spends her free time with family and friends enjoying New Braunfels and events in the surrounding area.
You will also find her at volleyball games cheering on her daughter and the remainder of the Unicorn Varsity Volleyball team. Her daughter will graduate in the 2018 Class of New Braunfels High School.
Lisa Crider became the District Receptionist in September 2015. In this role, Crider’s main duty is to greet everyone as they enter the Education Center, help them find who or what they need and direct all phone calls to the appropriate individual.
Crider worked for the district in the past as a substitute teacher and as the FOSS Science Kit Coordinator.Crider was away from the district for about 10 years working elsewhere and enjoying some time off work. During that time, she and her husband, Mark, saw their two boys, Scott and Jim, graduate from Dallas Baptist University, meet and marry the loves of their lives, and settle down in Nashville and Dallas.
