The New Braunfels Middle School Varsity Men's Choir and Varsity Treble Choir competed in the Region 12 UIL Concert and Sightreading Contest on Feb. 28 and March 1, respectively, and each won a Sweepstakes Trophy.
Each group performed a concert of three song selections prepared in advance for a group of judges. Immediately following their performance, the choirs went directly in to perform a Sightreading selection they had never seen. Each choir received the highest rating possible from every judge in both events earning them a Sweepstakes trophy.
The choirs are under the direction of Sara Trammell and accompanied on the piano by Mary Clayton-Smith.
The Oak Run Middle School choir also competed and earned a Superior Rating in Concert as well as an Excellent Rating in Sightreading.
“I am very pround of this group of mostly 7th graders that competed at the 8th grade varsity level,” said Chris Thomasson, ORMS choir director. “We knew that it would be tough this year, but each student rose to the occasion.”
