The cheerleaders from both New Braunfels Middle School (NBMS) and Oak Run Middle School (ORMS) represented New Braunfels ISD well at their summer cheer camps and earned several recognitions and awards for their team and individual performances. Both teams also earned a National Championship bid.
NBMS’s cheerleaders, under the director of Coach Candace Dozier, attended the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Camp the week of July 18-21 in Galveston. The girls received the following awards:
1st Place in the Large Division Junior High for Performance Cheer
Four Superior Ribbons for Game Day Chants and Game Day Cheers
Technical Excellence Award in Stunts
Technical Excellence Award in Tumbling
Unity Mascot Award
Spirit Stick Winner (every day of camp)
The following NBMS cheerleaders were also nominated for All-American Cheerleader: Reagan Hyatt, Jaelyn Roberts, Haley Brandt, Samantha Chetwood, Sierra Delgado, Hannah Garza, Summer Burnett, McKinzy Flores, Rylie Schacherer and Kaylie Nixon. Brandt was also nominated for a Leadership Award by the staff.
“The girls came to learn, have fun and win,” said Coach Dozier. “That’s exactly what this hardworking team did!”
The ORMS’s cheerleaders, under the direction of Coach Karen Fickel, also came home with several awards after attending the NCA Cheer Camp the week of June 12-15 at T Bar M. The team received the following awards:
1st Place for Champion Chant
Superior Ribbons for Champion Chant and Performance Cheer
Stunt S.A.F.E. Award
Spirit Stick Winners (every day of camp)
NCA Squad Credentialing for crowd leading, spirit raising, ambassadorship, athleticism and entertainment
The following ORMS Cheerleaders were also nominated for All-American Cheerleader: Logan Andrist, CiCi Burrell, Danny Clark, Preslee Granzin, Reighann Grier, Jamesen Harvey, Jensen Harvey, Haley Henshaw, Summer Henslee, Hanna Leinneweber, Holland May, Braiden Menke, Aubri Thompson, Ella Villanueva, Jacey Ward and Madyson Williams.
