Award Programs

Silver Unicorn

The Silver Unicorn was first awarded in 1965 and is intended to provide appropriate recognition of individuals in the community who have rendered outstanding service to the children and youth of the New Braunfels Independent School District. The Silver Unicorn Award is one of distinction and a special honor given by the District. No more than three recipients are now recognized annually.

Teacher of the Year

The NBISD Teacher of the Year program is held in conjunction with the annual Teacher of the Year program sponsored by the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA). Each campus elects a teacher of the year in the spring to compete for either the District Elementary Teacher of the Year or the District Secondary Teacher of the Year. The district winners are selected by committee and are announced with a surprise visit in April. Both recipients then compete for the Region 13 Teacher of the Year with hopes of advancing to the stave level of competition held each summer.
