NBISD’s Kevin Korpi selected as Region 13 Secondary Teacher of the Year

The Education Service Center for Region 13 out of Austin announced earlier this month that Kevin Korpi of New Braunfels High School has been selected as the Region 13 Secondary Teacher of the Year. He will now compete for the state-level honor of Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year this fall. The sponsoring organization, Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA), will announce the finalists for the state-level honor on Aug. 25.
Korpi is a graduate of New Braunfels High School (NBHS) and started his teaching career at NBHS in 1999 as a math teacher. For the past 15 years, he has taught numerous math courses at NBHS including Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics, Geometry and Algebra I and II.
He received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from The University of Texas and received his post-graduate certification from Texas State University in 2001.
His extensive resume includes several accomplishments such as hours of presenting to his peers at in-services, filming several math shows for NBISD Channel 98 and receiving his professional certification from College Board to be an Advanced Placement (AP) teacher.
Korpi is a member of several professional and social organizations that include: The National Council for the Teaching of Mathematics, The Mathematical Association of America, The American Federation of Teachers, Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers and Mensa.
For the past 15 years, a graduating senior has named Korpi as a “Hero.” He has also been recognized as the NBHS Teacher of the Month six times and was named the NBISD Secondary Teacher of the Year in 2004 and 2014. In 2004, he was also honored as a Trinity Prize Recipient and as the NBHS Senior Favorite Teacher of the Year.
Since 1969, the Texas State Teacher of the Year (TOY) Program has honored excellence in classroom education and provided a forum to showcase many outstanding educators whose efforts and example have inspired their students, their colleagues and the communities they serve. 2014 Teacher of the Year Recognition Program
The Teacher of the Year recognition program is intended to honor excellence in the classroom and provide a forum to showcase outstanding educators whose efforts and example have inspired their students, their colleagues and the community they serve. All recipients must:
- demonstrate outstanding leadership and excellence in teaching
- take an active role in their communities as well as their schools
- be professional, poised and articulate
- inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and abilities
- be skillful, dedicated teachers who plan to actively continue classroom teaching
NBISD selects 2014 District Teachers of the Year

NBISD Superintendent Randy Moczygemba made surprise visits on May 8 to announce the 2013-2014 Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year. They will represent the NBISD at the regional level with hopes of being named the Texas Teacher of the Year.

NBISD selects 2014 Campus Teachers of the Year

The New Braunfels ISD is proud to announce this year’s Campus Teachers of the Year. All of these individuals will be honored at the May 19 board meeting and will be considered for the honor of NBISD Elementary or Secondary Teacher of the year. From that level, they will advance to the regional competition with hopes of ultimately being named a Texas Teacher of the Year.
