New Superintendent Dr. Laurelyn Arterbury

The NBISD Board of Trustees held a special meeting on May 17 and unanimously approved the hiring of Dr. Laurelyn Arterbury as Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Arterbury is currently the Chief of Staff for Leander ISD and will begin her new position in NBISD on May 30.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be selected as the next leader of New Braunfels ISD. I want to express my sincere gratitude to the members of the Board of Trustees for placing their trust in me and for the opportunity to lead the district forward,” said Dr. Arterbury. “I am thankful for this incredible opportunity to join the New Braunfels ISD family.”

“The Board and I are very happy to welcome Dr. Arterbury and her family to New Braunfels,” said Eric Bergquist, NBISD Board President. “She surpassed all of our expectations, and we have no doubt she will be a great leader for this growing community. She upholds our beliefs and will lead us to the next level.”

Biographical Information

Dr. Arterbury has been an educator for more than 20 years and began her career as a high school teacher in Round Rock ISD. She currently serves as Chief of Staff for Leander ISD (LISD), a post she has held for the past two years. She has been with LISD the past seven years and held district leadership positions including Area Superintendent for four years, Interim Chief Technology Officer for one year, and Executive Director for College and Career Pathways for one year. 

Prior to working in LISD, she worked for Round Rock ISD for 16 years and served as Principal of Westwood High School for four years, Associate Principal at Stony Point High School and 9th Grade Center (SPHS-NGC) for eight years, and as a teacher and department chair at SPHS-NGC for four years.

Dr. Arterbury received her Doctor of Education degree in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University. She earned her Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Texas State University and a Bachelor of Arts in History from The University of Texas at Austin. She is a member of several organizations including the American Association of School Administrators, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the Texas Association of School Administrators, and serves as the Treasurer for Region 13’s Executive Board for the Texas Council of Women School Executives.

Dr. Arterbury has taught a doctoral level course at Baylor University and a masters level course at Concordia University, both as an adjunct professor. She valued these roles to lead, grow, and develop future school administrators.

She has experience working in two large, fast-growth districts in Central Texas with as many as 42,000 students and 5,500 employees. She developed and created several leadership programs such as the LISD Aspiring Administrators Academy, the Principal Preparation Program, and Aspiring Leader Program, and recently led the charge in strategic planning and long-range planning.

She has two school-age children that will attend New Braunfels ISD next school year.
