Klein Road Elementary School hosted a ‘Bingo for Books’ night on March 9, 2023 with parents and students to celebrate the importance of reading and community involvement in the school.
Students and their families were invited to come play Bingo and win books for the students and the school’s PTA served a hot dog dinner to families in attendance.
The event was planned by two teachers at KRE, Lisa Aguirre, Reading Intervention Teacher, and Stephanie Schulz, Math Interventionist Teacher.
“Bingo for Books is something I did previously at Memorial Elementary. The goal was to get books in the hands of students,” Aguirre explained. “It’s also a great way to get families involved and into the school.”

Aguirre and Schulz explained that Covid-19 put a pause on many school events and activities, so the Bingo for Books event was a great way to reintroduce parent and community engagement back into the school.
While the event was free, families were encouraged to bring donations for the food bank.
“The event had a great turnout! Several families mentioned that they loved having parent and family events back at KRE, and we had a total of 66 lbs of food donated to the Food Bank,” Schulz said.
During the night, they presented families with facts about comprehensive knowledge and the importance of reading daily. Students who won Bingo could pick a book of their choice from a large selection of Scholastic books that came with comprehension games for parents to play with the kids.
