Lamar Elementary Cheer club took first place at a national competition in San Antonio
  • Clubs

On May 13-14, the Lamar Cheer Club competed at The Open Championship in San Antonio in the Elementary Novice Division. They competed against one other elementary school from Houston and claimed the Championship title. The team was led by 3rd Grade Teacher and Coach Jaclyn Delgado and Assistant Coach Alyssa Hargrove, an NBHS varsity cheerleader.

The Lamar Cheer team was created last school year thanks to the passion Delgado has for competitive cheer. She said her team decided early in the year that they wanted to compete for the first time. The team worked extremely hard putting the routine together.

At the competition they were the first team to compete, and they were all extremely nervous. After some ups and down in the 2-day competition, they came out victorious.

“When they called our names as champions, it was absolutely the best feeling ever,” said Delgado. “These girls poured their hearts on that mat, and truly deserved this win! I am so proud of everything that they have accomplished this year!”

With this championship title, the team won a banner for their school and each cheerleader got a championship ring!
