Referral, Evaluation, and Eligibility
Do you have a concern that your child has a disability and is in need of support and services?
New Braunfels ISD Child Find process is a collaboration between families and educators in order to identify students who may need specially designed instruction supports and services.
New Braunfels ISD identifies, locates, evaluates, and serves individuals with disabilities who are birth to 21 years of age and who reside within New Braunfels ISD and are in need of special education and related services.
Help is available from for individuals who have the following disabilities according to federal and state criteria:
- Autism
- Deaf-blindness
- Deaf-Hard of Hearing
- Emotional Disturbance
- Intellectual Disability
- Multiple Disabilities
- Noncategorical Early Childhood (NCEC)
- Orthopedic Impairments
- Other Health Impairments
- Specific Learning Disability
- Speech Impairment
- Traumatic Brain Injury
- Visual Impairment
Identifying your child as a student with a disability is a significant event in the life of your child and family and requires a thorough individual evaluation. The Department of Special Education accepts referrals of children who may have a disability. If assessment is recommended, the assessment is provided at no cost to the parent. A referral may be made by a parent or by any person concerned about a child. Parent involvement and agreement is obtained prior to any further action. Information is confidential and the privacy of the children and parents is protected.
