NBISD Remote Conferencing

Districts can provide remote conferencing to students who are not able to attend school due to a temporary medical condition. One of the following requirements must be met:

Temporary medical condition documented by physician
Positive test for a communicable disease
Identified as having been in close contact with COVID-19

If your child is able to complete classwork, NBISD will provide students with an option to participate in remote conferencing through the district Learning Management System (LMS) - SeeSaw (PK-2) and Canvas (3-12). This service is to provide support for your child with their current classroom assignments. Remote Conferencing is not the same as virtual learning done in the 2020-21 school year. During remote conferencing, your students' classroom teacher will not be instructing students through synchronous (live instruction), rather assignments will be posted to the LMS for students to complete during their Remote Conferencing schedule. Students will be counted present when they participate in Remote Conferencing during attendance taking time. Please read further for more information.

Responsibilities

The Campus:

Will determine eligibility for participation in Remote Conferencing.
Will make the initial contact with parents about Remote Conferencing.
Will field any questions parents or students have in regards to Remote Conferencing.

The Classroom Teacher:

Understands that Remote Conferencing provides students with a study hall atmosphere to complete work they can do independently.
Will be responsible for posting a weekly agenda and scheduling assignments for students to access.
Should monitor assignments and provide feedback and/or grades following the grading policy.
Will make sure students get any additional instruction on concepts missed when they return to campus and follow the NBISD make-up policy regardless if the student was counted in attendance each day they were out.

Remote Conferencing Specialist will:

Communicate to parents via email the Remote Conferencing information.
Assign students to Remote Conference Facilitators.
Create attendance sheets for the day for each facilitator.
Disseminate end of day attendance back to campus PEIMS clerks.
Monitor the number of days a student is in remote conferencing as to not exceed 20 days.

The Remote Conferencing Facilitator:

Verify official, daily attendance.
Facilitate communication between classroom teachers and students while they are working from home.
Offer online support: 2 hours synchronous for PK - 5th grade; 4 hours synchronous for 6th-12th grade.
Monitors student progress on assignments in classroom teacher’s Seesaw/Canvas through conferencing with students.

The Elementary Student Should…

Follow the designated schedule above to attend class during synchronous times.
Zoom account name must be the student’s First and Last name.
Be present to synchronous instruction ready to complete work, on time, dressed appropriately, and follow online etiquette including using video and showing your face during Remote Conferencing.
Complete daily activities and assignments.
Take responsibility for asking for help and asking questions.
Turn in schoolwork daily at the direction of the regular classroom teacher.
Camera must be on when attendance is taken.

8:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Login to Zoom and work independently on any work assigned by your classroom teachers	Stay logged in the whole 4 hours

The Secondary Student…

Join the remote classroom via Zoom by 8:30 a.m. every morning.
Zoom account name must be the student’s First and Last name.
Be present, ready to work, on time, and dressed appropriately.
Follow online etiquette including using video and showing your face during Remote Conferencing.
Find and complete daily activities and assignments from your teacher’s Canvas classroom.
Must have your camera on during attendance taking time.
Advocate for yourself - reach out to your classroom teacher or the remote conferencing facilitator to ask for help when you need it.
Turn in schoolwork as directed by your classroom teacher.

Remote Conferencing FAQ’s

How do students get approved for Remote Conferencing?

Campus principals will work with their nurse, PEIMS clerks and other designated staff to submit information on qualifying students via a google form for Remote Conferencing that will include start and end dates for Remote Conferencing. Campuses will make the initial contact with parents and communicate that it will take 24-48 hours to get into Remote Conferencing.

How long can a student be in Remote Conferencing?

The State of Texas allows for a maximum of 20 days of remote conferencing for the 2021-22 school year.

How do students get into the Remote Conferencing classroom?

Once approved by the campus, information will be shared with the Remote Specialists. Students will be emailed a link to the Google Site which will give directions on how to access Zoom. Please allow up to 24 to 48 hours for this process.

What happens if a student’s camera does not work?

State law requires that your camera is on at the attendance taking times. If your camera on your iPad does not work you will need to contact the technology department or join Zoom using your smartphone or other personal device.
