Coronavirus (COVID-19)

The health and safety of our students, staff and visitors is paramount, and we are closely monitoring the spread of COVID-19. We are adhering to guidance from the local health officials, the Texas Department of Health & Human Services and the Center of Disease Control (CDC). With information changing daily, we encourage families to stay up to date on information about COVID-19. Below you will find helpful resources and update information:

    COVID-19 Cases:

    The first positive case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Comal County on March 18, 2020. Related Link

    The first death related to COVID-19 of a Comal County resident occurred on March 26, 2020. Related Link

    The first suspected case of community spread in Comal County was announced on March 27, 2020. Related Link

    School Schedules:

    Remote learning and instruction will continue for summer school.

    All facilities including indoor/outdoor athletic courts, fields and tracks are also closed.

    All extracurricular activities, field trips, practices, student events and athletic events are also suspended during this time.

    WHAT TO DROP OFF:

    • iPad and case that was originally issued.
    • Apple iPad charger (brick and cord) that was originally issued. An iPhone brick will not be accepted, nor will we accept any other brands.


    HOW TO MAKE iPAD DROP OFF FASTER:

    • Have your child(s) name in the dashboard, either with a car tag or written on a piece of paper.
    • Bring your own pen or pencil (you will only sign if there is a problem).
    • Bring the iPad charged
    • Follow iPad Setting instructions below.


    WHAT TO DO WITH THE IPAD PRIOR TO DROP OFF:

    GRADES 5-7 and GRADES 9-11
    Reset All Settings
    Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

    Grades PK-4, 8th GRADE and 12th GRADE
    Erase all Content and Settings
    Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings


    WHAT IF I HAVE LOST SOMETHING OR HAVE BROKEN THE iPAD?

    This is the part of the job that we do not enjoy but at the same time we have to be diligent with NBISD property and inventory. We will NOT be collecting money onsite during iPad drop off, however, you will be asked to sign our inventory checklist if you do not have all hardware or are turning in a damaged iPad. Once drop-off is complete, you will be billed for any outstanding claims. Below are the itemized costs to expect if you end up with a claim.

    iPad Brick - $17.50
    iPad Cord - $17.50
    Damaged (first claim with protection plan) - $0.00
    Damaged (second claim with protection plan) - $50.00
    Damaged (without protection plan) – Cost of repair

    To best expedite any potential help you may need with your child's iPad or any of their apps, we have created a parent Help Desk phone number and online ticket system for you. Please use either one of the avenues to request help for the management of the iPad or workflow of your child's assignments.

    If you do not have any connectivity at home, we have created a “SchoolWifi” network at every one of our campuses that will connect to any device, including your personal devices, no password needed. This will obviously require you to drive to the school and connect, but you should be able to sit in your car in the drive through and get connected.

    Also, below is the information I have collected concerning connectivity at home. You will obviously need to call your provider to verify the information below applies to your plan, but this is the information they have communicated to me regarding any special offers.

    AT&T - Offers open hot-spots, unlimited data to existing customers, and $10/month plans to low income families.

    Comcast - Offers free WiFi for 2 months to low income families plus all Xfinity hot-spots are free to the public during this time.

    Sprint - Providing unlimited data to existing customers will allow all phones to enable hot-spots for 60 days at no extra charge.

    T-Mobile - Unlimited data to existing customers and will allow all phones to enable hot-spots for 60 days at no extra charge.

    Charter/Spectrum - Free Internet offer for 2 months. Call 1-844-488-8395 for more information.

    Verizon - No special offers at this time.

    at no cost to kids 18 years and younger at the following locations & times:

     

    Breakfast 7-8 a.m.

    Lunch 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.

    Lone Star Early Childhood Center

    Voss Farms Elementary

  • Currently there are no vaccines to prevent the Coronavirus infections.

    Please remind your student of the importance of following good hygiene practices that prevent the spread of communicable disease.

    General preventative measures to protect yourself from respiratory illness including the Coronavirus disease, are :

    • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a sleeve or a tissue.
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, or use alcohol hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
    • Stay at home when you are sick.
    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

    Currently NBISD does not have any school-sponsored trips planned internationally.

    Currently NBISD does not have any students traveling domestically and has halted all employee travel.
