2020-2021 School Year Resources

This page has resources to improve the health and safety of our students, staff and visitors during the pandemic. We are adhering to guidance from the local health officials, the Texas Department of Health & Human Services and the Center of Disease Control (CDC). With information changing often, we encourage families to stay up to date on information about COVID-19. Below you will find helpful resources and update information:

    1. Does your child have any of the following high-risk symptoms:

      - A temperature of 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
      - Cough (with new onset or worsening cough in the case of asthma)
      - shortness of breath/increased work of breathing; or
      - Loss of taste or smell

    2. Does your child have any TWO of the following low risk symptoms
    • Sore throat
    • Nasal congestion/nasal discharge
    • Nausea/vomiting/diarrhea
    • Myalgias (muscle aches) unrelated to exercise /injury
    • Headache
    • Fatigue 

    3. To your knowledge, in the last 14 days, has your child had close contact* with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19?

    *Beginning 10/19/20 NBISD defines close contact as 6ft or less for more than 15 minutes. If both individuals in close contact are properly wearing masks, only the positive individual will be quarantined if either are not properly masked, both will be quarantined.


    If your child has any of the above-listed, one high-risk symptom or two low risk symptoms, 

    1. Please do not send your child to school
    2. CLICK HERE to report your screening results to the school nurse
    3. Wait on further instructions from your school nurse or email

  • Curbside Meal Service for remote Learners


    Below are the details for the Curbside Meal Service for NBISD Students who are remote learners during the 2020-2021 School Year. Meal service begins on Monday, Aug. 24. For any questions regarding Curbside Meal Service, please call 830-627-6743. 

    • The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has regulated that only students enrolled in NBISD will be allowed to pick up meals from NBISD Curbside sites for the 2020-2021 school year.
    • USDA’s National Waiver for School Districts to operate under the Seamless Summer Option (SSO)  instead of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) to offer free meals for all will expire once NBISD’s 2020-2021 school year starts on August 24, 2020. This means students will receive meals based on their eligibility status - free, reduced or paid breakfast and lunch.
    • USDA’s National Waiver for parents/guardians to pick up meals without students present in the car will still be allowed for the 2020-2021 school year.
    • Curbside service will be 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM.
    • Students or parents who pick up meals will receive a breakfast and a lunch meal together.
    • Parents who pick up meals without students in the car will need to show the food service staff their student's ID badge as proof meals are going to an enrolled student. 
    • Location of Curbside Meal Service is out Central Kitchen, 566 Butcher Street New Braunfels TX 78130.

  • District Requirements

    ALL persons, including students Pre-K through 12th grade, entering or exiting an NBISD building WILL wear a face mask or face shield.

    Face masks or face shields WILL be worn in hallways, libraries, restrooms and other common areas.

    Face masks or face shields MAY be removed in a classroom or other learning space only if it is possible to maintain at least six foot of distance between every person in the room.

    Face masks or face shields will not be required while eating lunch.

    Face masks or face shields will not be required at recess or physical education, however social distancing will be at least six feet between every person.

    Approved face coverings

    • Face masks
    • Non-medical grade disposable paper face masks that are at least two-ply
    • No ventilation devices in mask
    • Cloth face masks that cover the nose and mouth and made from at least two layers of fabric
    • Gaiters may be worn, but the must be constructed with two layers of material
    • Gaiters that are only one layer are not allowed, unless they are folded and stitched so that they may not be worn as a single layer
    • Folding or doubling over of single layer gaiters is not allowed
    • Bandanas are not allowed
    • Face shields which wrap around the sides of the wearers face and extend below the chin to protect eyes, nose and mouth
    •  Face shields that attach to hats or caps are not allowed
  • Currently there are no vaccines to prevent the Coronavirus infections.

    Please remind your student of the importance of following good hygiene practices that prevent the spread of communicable disease.

    General preventative measures to protect yourself from respiratory illness including the Coronavirus disease, are :

    • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a sleeve or a tissue.
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, or use alcohol hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
    • Stay at home when you are sick.
    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
    • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

    Currently NBISD does not have any school-sponsored trips planned internationally.

    Currently NBISD does not have any students traveling domestically and has halted all employee travel.
