Unicorn Wrestling ends spectacular season at 6A UIL State Championship

We knew these guys were good and we knew that they would be bringing home some hardware from the state tournament this year, we just knew it!

These Unicorns are tough! How tough? Tough enough to claim a 12th place finish as a team in the great state of Texas, with one top 5 finisher and a gold medalist! And with that gold medal, New Braunfels Unicorn Wrestling claims their first State Championship title!

Six Unicorn Wrestlers qualified for the state tournament this year led by three seniors. Team members competing at state were: Noah Cairns (Sophomore; 182 lb. class); Cameron Laurel (Senior; 152 lb. class); George Marsh (Senior; 285 lb. class); Landon Marsh (Freshman; 170 lb. class); Aiden Valadez (Sophomore;  126 lb. class); and Braxton Zarate (Senior; 220 lb. class).

Competing against the best of the best in the state, several of our team members were knocked out in earlier rounds. Sophomore Noah Cairns won his first match by fall; he lost his second match but was then able to battle his way through the next four rounds winning each to claim the 5th place medal in the 182 lb. class.

To round out a stellar high school wrestling career, George Marsh claimed New Braunfels first 6A State Wrestling Championship title. Not only is GeoJo this year’s 6A State Champion in the 285 pound class, he accomplished it with a perfect 37-0 record with all of the wins coming by fall. Marsh, is a three time Region Champion, a 4 time District Champion and a State Champion. I don’t believe you could possibly have a better high school career.

Seniors, you are all leaving some big shoes to fill and we are going to miss you. To our returning wrestlers, this class has raised the bar, just like the classes before them, and we are looking forward to your accomplishments over the next few years. New Braunfels wrestling just continues to grow and dominate our district and region.

We are so proud of all of you, your hard work and dedication, from everyone on the team including the coaches, trainers, and parents. Congratulations, keep it up and GO BLUE!
