Administrative Changes announced for Voss Farms Elementary next year

Deborah Cary, new NBISD Early Education Coordinator for SY 2020-21   Melinda Villarreal, new Voss Farms Elementary Principal for the 2020-21 School Year

The NBISD Superintendent has announced two new administrative assignments for the upcoming school year related to Voss Farms Elementary. Deborah Cary, the current principal at Voss Farms Elementary, has been named the new Early Education Coordinator for NBISD. Her replacement as the principal at Voss Farms will be Melinda Villarreal, the current assistant principal at Voss Farms.

The Early Education Coordinator is a new position that has been created to supervise the launch and implementation of the Texas Reading Academy for all of the district’s primary teachers and administrators. Cary will also serve as the district’s dyslexia coordinator and oversee the soon-to-be-hired early intervention teachers/coaches.

Cary has been with NBISD for the last 20 years. During her time with NBISD, she worked as a teacher and principal at County Line Elementary before moving to Walnut Springs Elementary, and then on to Voss Farms Elementary, where she has been serving as principal for the last three years since its opening. She has also held the positions of a first-grade teacher, reading recovery teacher, gifted and talented teacher, and assistant principal with NBISD. She has been an educator for the past 30 years and worked for Mesquite ISD and All Saints Episcopal School before coming to NBISD in 2000.

Villarreal has been an educator for the past 18 years and joined the NBISD family in 2006 as a 4th grade Dual Language Math and Science teacher at the former Memorial Intermediate School. In 2008, she moved to Klein Road Elementary to teach 1st Grade Dual Language Self-contained and 4th Grade Dual Language Math and Science. In 2013, she became a Bilingual Math interventionist at Klein Road. She also worked as a teacher in Pasadena ISD for four years before coming to NBISD.  Villarreal has been an assistant principal at Voss Farms Elementary for the past three years


Villarreal has a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Concordia University. She is certified in Bilingual/ESL-Spanish, Grades 1-8, Self-Contained, Early Childhood and holds a Special Education Supplemental certification.


She lives in New Braunfels with her husband, Carlos, and their three daughters.
