NBISD names new Executive Directors to leadership team

NBISD welcomes new district leadership team members Ingia Saxton, NBISD Executive Director of Secondary Schools Dr. Jennifer Garcia-Edwardsen, NBISD Executive Director of Elementary Schools

 

The NBISD Superintendent has announced the hiring of two new administrators to join the district leadership team. Dr. Jennifer Garcia-Edwardsen has been selected as the Executive Director of Elementary Schools with a start date of July 1. Ingia Saxton has been named the Executive Director of Secondary Schools with a start date of July 12.

Dr. Jennifer Garcia Edwardsen has been an educator for the past 14 years serving as a teacher, campus administrator, and district leader. She most recently held the position of Deputy Academic Officer and Area Superintendent for Hays CISD (2018-2021). Before working in Hays CISD, she worked for Del Valle ISD as the Principal at Baty Elementary (2014-2018), Assistant Principal at Del Valle Middle School (2012-2014), and an elementary teacher for the first five years of her career (2007-2012).

“I am excited to have the opportunity to work and serve the community my family lives in,” said Dr. Garcia-Edwardsen. “I am eager to get to know our students, staff, and community members!”

Dr. Garcia-Edwardsen earned her Doctorate in School Improvement and Masters of Education from Texas State University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Human Ecology from The University of Texas at Austin. She has her certification as a Superintendent, Principal, and K-8 Teacher Generalist. She is also a Registered Texas School Business Administrator (RTSBA) and holds a State of Texas Mediation Certificate.

She has been a member of the Texas Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development Board, Region 13 Advisory Council, and the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA).

Her honors include being named the Del Valle Elementary Teacher of the Year and Hornsby-Dunlap Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2011, an H-E-B Excellence in Education Finalist in the Emerging Leader Category (2011), an H-E-B Excellence in Education Semifinalist in the Principal Category in 2018, and to Austin’s Under 40 Recipient in the Youth and Education Category in 2020.

Dr. Garcia-Edwardsen and her husband reside in New Braunfels with their two young children. 

Ingia Saxton has been an educator for the past 20 years serving as a teacher, counselor, campus administrator, and district administrator. She most recently served as the Director of District and Administrative Services for Brock ISD (2020-2021). She also served as the Principal for Brock Junior High and Brock Intermediate (2015-2020) and as a counselor at Brock Junior High (2012-2015). She worked in Joshua ISD as a teacher, counselor, and assistant principal at the elementary level (2001-2008) and at Eagle-Mountain Saginaw ISD as a counselor at the junior high level (2008-2012).

“I am blessed to get the opportunity to be a part of the NBISD family,” said Saxton. “I look forward to working alongside fantastic school leaders, staff, students, and community members as I step into this role for the district.” 

Saxton is in the process of earning her Doctorate in Educational Administration from Texas Christian University. She earned her Masters of Education in School Counseling from Tarleton State University and her bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from The University of North Texas. She has her certification as a Principal, School Counselor, Teacher Generalist 1-4, Teacher Self-Contained 1-8, and English as a Second Language (PK-12). 

She has been a member of the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA), Texas School Counselor Association (TSCA),  Texas Association of Secondary Principals (TASSP), and Texas Elementary School Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA).

She and her husband, John, have one daughter, Morgan, a 2021 graduate of Brock High School. 

Both individuals will support, develop, challenge, and grow principal leadership for excellent student experiences through coaching, professional learning, collaboration, and supervision. They will provide leadership in developing, achieving, evaluating, and maintaining the organization, procedures, policies, programs, and services to the students.
