COVID-19 Updates for 2021-2022
Return-to-School Update for July 29, 2021

On July 28, NBISD district personnel presented the Back-to-School Plan to the Board of Trustees. In this plan, NBISD aimed to find the best way to ensure the safety of our students and staff while providing the best educational experience possible.  You can find the complete details of that plan here. Below are some of the brief highlights of the plan:

  • Per Governor Abbot’s Executive Order, face coverings will not be required for students or staff.  Parents/guardians of students will have the choice of whether or not they want their child to wear a face covering. Staff will have that same option.
  • NBISD will continue to notify our parents and community of COVID-positive cases.
  • A process map to help guide parents on decisions regarding their child(ren) can be found here. In Spanish here(Updated: 8-26-21)
  • This past spring, our lawmakers did not pass a bill that funds remote learning for the upcoming school year during the legislative session. In addition, a survey of parents that ended the year with their child in remote learning revealed only 3% of our students would choose remote learning if offered.  Therefore, NBISD has decided only to provide in-person learning for the 2021-22 school year.
  • NBISD will communicate vaccination opportunities that are available or on the horizon.  One opportunity is August 11th. A flyer for that opportunity can be found here.

Our district will continue to monitor the state of this pandemic as it impacts our school year and will adjust and adapt to any significant changes. If changes are needed, we will communicate those with you immediately.

We look forward to seeing all of our Unicorns back on August 23rd!
