Unicorns' Brawner earns 300th win

NBHS boys basketball coach earns his 300th win

David Brawner, head coach of the New Braunfels Unicorn Boys Basketball Team, earned his 300th win during a recent tournament game at the Brazoswood ISD Holiday Classic. Brawner's 300th victory came during a 69-21 win over Alief Elsik on Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2021.

"I'm not really sure I can put it into words," Brawner said. "I've been blessed to be able to coach young men who have believed in what we are trying to do."

Brawner, an NBHS alum, said that winning hundreds of games is attributed to the student-athletes that come through his program. "We've established a culture at NBHS that believes in common good over the individual," he said. "I think that winning games is a product of striving to do the right things on a daily basis."

Brawner returned to New Braunfels as the head coach of the Unicorns at the beginning of the 2014 season. Prior to returning to his alma mater, he previously spent time as a head coach at Troy, Ferris and San Antonio Southwest high schools. Brawner also previously was an assistant at La Grange and Brenham high schools.

"Personally, I'm extremely thankful to the NBISD Admin that hired me and allowed me to give back to the school that means so much to me," he added.

Brawner was recognized for his accomplishment during a home game against Smithson Valley on Tuesday, Jan. 4.
