Shipman named director of counseling

The NBISD Administration has selected Kellye Shipman as the new Director of Counseling. In this newly created position, Shipman will oversee the creation and implementation of a comprehensive and developmental counseling program. Shipman is currently working in NBISD as one of the assistant principals at New Braunfels Middle School. She will begin her new position on July 1.

“I am very honored and excited to accept this new position in NBISD,” said Shipman. “School counselors are the first line of support for our students, and we have a dedicated group of counselors that I look forward to reuniting with. Together we will build the best comprehensive program for our students and families.”

Shipman has been an educator for the past 17 years and with NBISD the past 7 years. Before working at NBMS as an assistant principal she was one of the NBMS counselors. From 2006-2015 she worked in Seguin as an elementary school counselor for 4 years and as an elementary teacher for 5 years. She also worked in Gonzales ISD for the first year of her teaching career.

"We are excited to have Mrs. Shipman transition into this newly created position,” said Ingia Saxton, Executive Director of Secondary Schools. “She will be instrumental in increasing the level of services we provide for our students, staff and parents. With her leadership and experience, we will see an increase in student success at all levels."

She has a master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance from Texas A&M University-San Antonio and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Texas Tech University. She received her teacher certification from Texas Lutheran University and is certified as a principal and school counselor. She also has her teaching certificate for early childhood through 4th grade and in ESL Education. She is a member of the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, the Texas School Counselors Association and the Texas Classroom Teachers Association.

She and her husband reside in New Braunfels and have three children, all NBISD graduates. She is excited to continue serving the NBISD community in this new role.
