Volunteers needed for elementary tutoring program
05/17/2018

RSVP Volunteer Coordinator Cindy Peterman reads to an elementary student.

RSVP America Reads Program has been a part of NBISD for many years and sponsored hundreds of volunteers. The group is actively recruiting more members to volunteer in NBISD’s elementary schools.

The program pairs adult volunteers over the age of 55 with kindergarten, first and second grade students in local elementary schools.  The volunteers meet individually with assigned students on the campus during school hours once a week for 30-minute tutoring sessions. Volunteers assist with reading skills, provide encouragement and instill confidence.

“We currently have more than 50 volunteers serving nine campuses in NBISD,” said Cindy Peterman, the Comal County RSVP Volunteer Coordinator. “Our goal is to achieve at least 10 hours of one-to-one mentoring and the services are free to the district and the students we serve.”

To learn more or to become a volunteer, please contact Peterman by email at rcpeterman@sbcglobal.net or by calling 830-625-1835 or Barbara Weyland at bweyland.rsvp@tlu.edu or by phone at 830-379-0300.
