NBISD Bond 2021

(November 2, 2021) New Braunfels ISD taxpayers approved two of the three propositions listed under the 2021 Bond that went before voters on November 2. These two propositions total $327.9 million in projects to address growth, aging facilities, athletic upgrades (excluding stadiums) and technology. 

Under Proposition “A” totaling $321,300,000, the election drew an estimated 61 percent in favor and 39 percent against the bond proposition. A total of 3,204 voters were in favor of the bond and 2,028 against. 

Under Proposition “C” totaling $6.6 million for districtwide technology, an estimated 59 percent of the voters cast a ballot in favor and 41 percent against. A total of 3,061 voters voted in favor and 2,157 against. 

The total bond presented to voters was $348 million and also included a separate proposition - Proposition B - for a varsity competition stadium at the future Long Creek High School and upgrades to the existing New Braunfels High School press box. This particular proposition did not gain voter approval with an estimated 54 percent voting against.

 

The bond will be presented to voters in three (3) different propositions on the ballot.

Background

  • Comal County is among the fastest growing counties in the nation (Source)
  • Bond recommended by the Facilities Planning Committee (FPC) comprised of 46 diverse community members
  • Elementary enrollment projects show three (3) elementary schools plus NBHS over capacity by 2022
  • Current Ninth Grade Center/Future Long Creek High School will transition into a 4-year comprehensive high school in 2025
  • Career Technical Education (CTE), Fine Arts & Athletics facilities at the high school level were identified by the FPC for updates and expansion to offer better opportunities for students
  • The current Ninth Grade Center was originally built in 2012 (Bond 2010) to eventually be expanded to serve as the district's 2nd high school
  • Aging facilities continue to be addressed in each bond

Scope of Work

  • Impact ALL NBISD students by addressing needs at BOTH high school facilities
  • Solving capacity issues at Veramendi Elementary, Lamar Elementary, Klein Road Elementary & Voss Farms Elementary
  • Providing new playgrounds or playground shades at ALL elementary campuses
  • Updating NBHS Career Technical Education (CTE), Fine Arts & Athletic facilities
  • Addressing district-wide needs for HVAC Maintenance, Technology & Vehicles
  • Finding a new home for NBISD's DAEP, School of Choice and Gateway Programs

February 2021 - Facility Planning Committee (FPC) began meeting

July 28, 2021 - Facility Planning Committee present their recommendations to the Board

August 9, 2021 - Board calls $348 million bond election for Nov. 2, 2021

October 4, 2021 - Last day to Register to Vote

October 18, 2021 - First Day of Early Voting

October 22, 2021 - Last Day to Apply for Ballot by Mail (received, not postmarked)

October 29, 2021 - Last Day of Early Voting

November 2, 2021 - Election Day
