Q: What is a bond?

A: A bond is similar to a home mortgage. It is a contract to repay borrowed money with an interest rate over time. Bonds are sold by a school district to competing lenders to raise funds to pay for the costs of construction, renovations and equipment. The district does not receive funding from the state for construction of new school buildings or facility improvements. 

Q: How can bond money be used?
A: Bond money may be used for new schools and facilities, expansion and renovations of existing facilities, furniture, technology, equipment, busses and new school sites. 

Q: How is bond money restricted?
A: Bond money can only be used for capital improvements and related costs. It may not be used for employee salaries, utilities, and other such operating expenses.

Q: When was the last NBISD Bond and what was the outcome? 
A: New Braunfels ISD voters passed a $118.3 million bond referendum held on November 6, 2018. The majority of the bond program was to build a new middle school and new elementary school.

Q: Why did NBISD order another Bond?
A: The recommendations to call a bond came from the Facilities Planning Committee (FPC) comprised of 46 diverse community members, employees, and parents. The FPC met from February until July. They recommended a majority of what is in the bond package. 

Q: Has NBISD continued experiencing growth?
A: Yes. Comal County is one of the fastest growing counties in the nation. (Source)

Q: Will voters have an opportunity to receive information and to ask questions about the bond issue before the election?
A: Yes. The majority of the information about the bond can be found on this website www.nbisdbond.com. NBISD will also host a series of community forums to allow the taxpayers to hear about the proposed bond projects and ask questions. 

Q: Who is eligible to vote in this election?
A: Any registered voter that resides within the school district boundaries is eligible to vote in the bond election.

Q: Can I still register to vote in the election?
A: The deadline for voter registration is Tuesday, October 4, 2021. If you are not registered to vote by this deadline, then you are not eligible to vote in this election. You can get a voter registration application online by clicking here. You must be a resident of NBISD in order to vote in the bond election.
