NBISD Safety and Security

Jay Huffty, M.Ed. - NBISD Director of Safety and SecurityHello, and welcome to the NBISD safety and security department webpage. Our vision as the NBISD Safety and Security Department  is to strive to be a dynamic, continuously improving organization devoted to Integrity, Professionalism, Service and Education in making our schools a safer and healthier place to learn, work and play. Our Mission is to work in partnerships to create a safer school district and preserve our special quality of life.

Without compromise, the safety and security of our students and staff is our number one priority. This is a difficult standard, no doubt, considering today’s ever changing and evolving world.  To ensure we meet the standard our safety protocols and plans are fluid as well, meaning we are constantly evaluating them and adapting them to meet the demands for the safety scenario at hand.

Secure entrancesIn order to accomplish the above priority, we have added an additional layer of security for all of our campuses. Doors from the entrance to the main office will now be secured and all visitors will need to be admitted into the secure office areas by a staff member.

New Braunfels ISD has also entered into a partnership with the courageous men and women of the New New Braunfels Police DepartmentBraunfels Police Department to provide dedicated School Resource Officers on each of our secondary campuses. In addition NBISD has engaged in partnerships with local law enforcement agencies including the Comal County Sheriff’s Office, Our Constable’s Offices, as well as the New Braunfels Fire Department and EMS.  Each of these dedicated emergency services providers routinely circulate through our elementary campuses to foster ongoing lifelong relationships with our students.

NBISD also believes in training our staff on how to react in the event of any emergency on our campuses, or at medical bagour facilities.  Our staff are trained in CPR, Stop the Bleed, and each campus maintains a Crisis Response Team (CRT) to provide direction in the event extingent circumstances occur on campus.  While our staff’s main focus remains  engaging and educating our students, whether in a virtual setting or in in the traditional  classroom, NBISD edevors  to ensure they have the knowledge and resources required to help prevent and respond to emergency situations. In order to do so, NBISD follows the Standard Response Protocols as set out by the Texas State School Safety Center and the I Love You Guys Foundation.

See something, say something. Our greatest safety measure, however, is vigilance. If you see something suspicious, or disconcerting, online or in person, please say something.  Please report any suspicious activity or suspected dangers to the appropriate authorities immediately.
